SYNOPSIS
WHEN A FILMAKER PRODUCING A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT SHADFLIES UNEXPECTEDLY APPEARS IN THEIR RETIREMENT HOME, the lives of five elderly women is turned upside down. We learn that their passion for these ephemeral insects that emerge each spring from the lake seeking the light at all costs is only equalled by their obsession with the Dionne quintuplets.
Under the spotlight, the unexpected bond uniting these five women also comes to light. Terrible stories they had never thought to reveal resurface as they seize the moment and confess secrets for the first and last time in their lives.
Up and coming Franco-Ontarian director Dillon Orr presents Alain Doom’s most recent play, written during his time as Théâtre français de Toronto’s “playwright in residence”. An incisive feminist comedy evoking the ephemeral nature of our lives with humour and tenderness.
