Jocelyn Sioui in Mononk Jules
A Productions Illusion Fabuleuse Original Play

Mononk Jules

March 20 to 23, 2024
Duration: 120 minutes

Inspired by the life of his great-uncle Jules Sioui, one of the greatest Indigenous heroes of the 20th century, Jocelyn Sioui paints a portrait of a fascinating man and, through him, of an indigenous history obscured by white memory.

Through the use of miniatures and projections, surrounded by boxes of archives, Jocelyn Sioui magically transports us from one historical event to the next. Funny, touching and energetic, Mononk Jules is a captivating story delivered with authenticity by Jocelyn Sioui.

Cultural mediation workshops are held before the show on Thursday March 21 and Friday March 22

On Thursday, March 21 at 5:30 p.m., take part in Jimmy Dick's Introductory Cree Language workshop preceding the presentation of MONONK JULES.

Jimmy Dick belongs to the Moose Cree First Nation and was born in the community of Moose Factory, Ontario. Moose Factory is located on James Bay and is part of the Nishnawbe-Aski Nation. He speaks the Cree language fluently, is a pipe carrier and teaches Native culture and spirituality. He is the proud father of seven children, five sons and two daughters. Jimmy has been actively involved since moving to Toronto in 1975.

On Friday, March 22 at 5:30 p.m., join Spirit Wind for a drumming circle. The circle will precede a presentation by MONONK JULES. Bring your own drum. If you don't have one, one will be provided.

The name Spirit Wind signifies the importance of giving thanks for our breath. Multi-talented artists, singers, songwriters and dancers. Jaime Kearns, Cathy Walker, Amy Desjarlais, Michele Perpaul, Tania Cordoba, Isiah MacaFarlabr and Murray May Perpaul come together to share traditional and social songs on hand drums, through stories, drums, voices and shakers.
