Toronto, Ontario - Théâtre français de Toronto (TfT) is thrilled to introduce its latest creation, Les Filles du roi, an original play envisioned by Sébastien Bertrand, the talented author behind the acclaimed web series, Les Liaisons dangereuses: correspondances inédites. Drawing inspiration from a pivotal historical event crucial to Canada's formation, this mesmerizing production whisks you away to the year 1673, where you'll find yourself amidst the vast Atlantic Ocean, aboard a vessel bound for New France.

Under the direction of Karine Ricard, this compelling play will grace the stage at Berkeley Street Theatre from November 2 to 12, 2023.

SYNOPSIS: New France, under the rule of Louis XIV, seeks expansion and increased influence. Nevertheless, the king faces a stark reality: there exists a noticeable gender imbalance, hindering the colony's progress. Louis XIV initiates a recruitment campaign to locate young women willing to marry and undertake the journey to the promised land. Against this captivating historical backdrop, author Sébastien Bertrand envisions the tumultuous journey of six characters drawn directly from Molière's works. Who could have predicted that Armande, Martine, Dorimène, Mariane, Angélique, and Agnès—iconic figures from Molière's comedies—would one day hold the status of 'King's Daughters'? In this innovative creation, brimming with ingenuity, it is precisely these same characters who embark on a voyage in search of new horizons.

However, behind this journey lie a variety of motivations, and some of these young women carry dark secrets just waiting to come to light.

The play boasts an exceptional cast, including Mathieu Bourrassa, Manon Bourgeois, Hannah Forest-Briand, Geneviève Langlois, Vincent Leblanc-Beaudoin, Gloria Mampuya, Caroline Raynaud and Mélie. B. Rondeau, who bring these fascinating characters to life.
