The Company

In its 50 years, Théâtre français de Toronto (TfT) has positioned itself as one of the most influential French-language theatre companies outside Québec, with nearly 290 shows to its name. TfT welcomes nearly 10,000 spectators each season from all over the Greater Toronto Area and Southwestern Ontario. TfT’s season consists of 5 shows for the general public, 2 shows for teenagers and 1 show for children. Since 1990, TfT offers its francophone and francophile audience a varied repertoire that includes Canadian and international plays, new work,  as well as the great classics.

Missions

Present varied and high quality theatre

TfT’s full theatrical season consists of 8 plays presented at the Berkeley Street Theatre and the Studio 21.

The programming includes new original works, co-productions, great classics and musicals.

Offer educational programs for our youth

TfT schedules school matinees for the majority of its shows and invites all Toronto students to join in.

Taught by professional educators, the company offers Drama Classes for Kids (ages 5 to 13).

TfT spearheads the Writing Contest for teenagers: Les Zinspirés.

 

Promote the professional development of artists

The company supports a playwright residency program that gives authors the tools and support they need to create new original work.

The company supports local talents by providing work opportunities.

Reach out to the community and organize awareness raising activities

TfT hosts special events in its Studio and takes part in annual commemorations such as Black History Month, The International Theatre Day and many others…

TfT regularly offers workshops in its Studio, often in partnership with other community-based organizations in order to strengthen the local cultural network.
